MiX Telematics Tasks DataProphet to Improve Safety and Efficiency of Fleets with Artificial Intelligence

Cape Town, South Africa – x June, 2019 – MiX Telematics, a leading global provider of fleet and mobile asset management solutions, has appointed DataProphet, a global leader in Artificial Intelligence (AI), to explore how it can improve customer insights through the application of AI and drive technical innovation in the telematics industry.

MiX Telematics worked with DataProphet on a ‘deep dive’ into its rich data to discover which features could provide valuable and actionable steps for its customers to improve operations. Having identified a number of potential projects, the team agreed to focus on two that would best assist fleet managers to make informed decisions. The first project focused on efficiency and safety. The solution provides key metrics to drivers and fleet managers to reinforce good driving behavior and measure improvement.

“We are excited to share the very real benefits we have identified using artificial intelligence with our customers,” said x, x at MiX Telematics. “We expect to see a significant improvement in driver behaviour, resulting in fewer incidents and more efficient fleet services.”

MiX Telematics’ large data set is ideally suited for Machine Learning. The data available included geographical data, such as routes travelled, combined with vehicle data, such as fuel usage and engine sensor monitoring. DataProphet built a solution for MiX Telematics to process data in real time and generate a concise narrative based dashboard for fleet managers to identify and act on areas within their fleet which can be improved.

DataProphet’s team of data scientists utilize various features of the Amazon Web Services (AWS) platform to enable the solution’s workflow. This includes the use of EC2 instances for compute and RDS for data storage. At the core of the system, DataProphet applies unsupervised machine learning techniques to reduce and discover different behaviours within fleets. These naturally discovered behaviours are used to inform fleet managers on what actions to take for different fleets in order to improve their safety or efficiency.

“We are looking forward to hearing MiX Telematics’ customers reaction when they realise the changes they can make to their businesses using the data they already have,” said Frans Cronje, Co-founder & CEO, DataProphet. “We are proud to partner with Mix Telematics and use advanced deep learning to drive innovation and transform the telematics industry.”
